Will the CIAC Cancel the 2020 Spring Sports Season?

Story by Carli LoPresto, Staff Writer

On Thursday, April 23rd, the CIAC had a meeting to determine the spring sports season. They determined that if school buildings remain closed until the end of the 2019-2020 school year then they will cancel all spring sport experiences. They also decided that potential spring sports will be limited to the month of June. As well as not running any state championship events. They decided that carrying out the season into July presents challenges for athletes and school districts.

In addition to their discussion of the spring sports season, they discussed that 10 days of practice/conditioning prior to competition will still remain. However, 5 days may be lead at home but the remaining 5 days have to be with a coach. They also still decided that the standard of physicals being valid for a 13-month period will remain.

There is a tiny chance that the seniors might have their last season but it will probably still be the shortest season of their life. My hope goes out to the seniors that they will have maybe even one last game or meet.
