Interview with Celtics Small Forward Semi Ojeleye

Story by Christopher Caraballo, Staff Writer

Along with interviewing Justin Bethel, I also had the opportunity to interview Semi Ojeleye of the Boston Celtics. Ojeleye was selected in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft, 37th Overall. The following is a Q&A with Semi about what it’s been like for him during the Covid-19 Pandemic, which affected his teammate Marcus Smart.

Q: “How are you doing during this time?”

A: “The guys and I are doing well. We all miss playing, but I think it’s a good time to realize how blessed we really are to be where we’re at. I believe we’ll be back soon. In the meantime, we all have to try and keep each other going.”

Q: “What have you been doing during the quarantine?”

A: “Praying, reading my Bible. I’ve been doing my best to stay in God’s word and keep my faith going. I’ve also been reflecting… working out as much as I can… gaming… trying to reach out to as many people as I can.”

Q: “How did the NBA suspending its season affect you?”

A: “I mean- it’s my job so I’m out of work and waiting like a lot of people right now. But I believe we’ll be back.”

Q: “How did the team rally together during this time?”

A: “We try and talk as a team on Zoom at least once a week. Most days we work out together in groups over FaceTime.”

Q: “What’s your biggest advice for everyone right now?”

A: “I think we all need to take this time to figure out what’s really important in life. Support those who are hurting right now in whatever way we’re able. When we have the chance to go back out, we have to make the most of it.”
