Last Thursday, the SHS Field Hockey team beat out the New Fairfield Rebels 2-0, advancing them to the Class S state semifinals.

The game was controlled by the Bears the majority of the time with Maddy Cassell scoring within the first ten minutes of the game on a lifted shot. Later in the half, Miranda Arruda scored which increased the Bears’ lead to 2-0.

“I feel like we played great the whole game,” freshman Sophia Fernholz, said. “Both the offense and defense worked really well together, and I think that’s what made it one of our best games.”

The defensive unit worked very hard to get the ball upfield to players like Arruda to score. Players like Colette Dreher, Jillian Holland, and Daisy Williams all were standouts in this game for transitioning the ball to attack, and a big part of the reason why the Rebels had no goals.

The Bears continue their season in the Class S state semifinal game on Tuesday at 6:30 against the 3rd seeded Immaculate Mustangs in Wethersfield.
