Last season the Bears had a successful run, with the boys’ team winning the ECC division and the girls’ coming in at a close second. This season’s coaches, Bowne, Parkinson, and Chapman, have plans to challenge the team to go even further.

The team meets six days a week for over two hours a day. From running to jumping to throwing, the athletes work hard every day to reach the goals of winning their meets and qualifying for regional championship competitions. Coach Bowne commented, “We have a lot of talented hard working kids and have high expectations for the ECC and State Meets.” The team will also be working hard to beat their biggest competitions, Griswold and East Lyme.

This season, the team is expected to have about 105 athletes, ranging from freshmen to seniors. Captain of the girls’ throwing section, Katherine Cintron, said, “I want my teammates to have respect, dedication and to be hard working. I also want my team to build a bond with each other.” Cintron has been on the throwing team since her freshman year.

Coach Bowne also shared his overview of the team, “This is a really great group of young women and men that work very hard and consistently succeed at higher and high levels.  It will be a great year for us with a lot of team and individual success.”
