CIAC cancels all winter and spring tournaments

Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) executive director Glenn Lungarini made one of the toughest decisions this past week, announcing that the CIAC will cancel its winter and spring tournaments due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

This will mark the first time in 97 years that there will be no boys basketball championship played in the state of Connecticut.

“After much consideration and consultation, the CIAC has made the difficult decision to cancel all remaining CIAC winter tournament games,” Lungarini said. “The CIAC understands and appreciates the disappointment that student athletes, parents, coaches and administrators may feel as a result of this decision. However, we must always place the health and safety of our student athletes first.”

In my opinion, I feel like they shouldn’t completely cancel the tournaments. What they should do is just ban the fans, not the whole tourney. The reason why they should do this is because of the seniors. It just isn’t fair that they worked all of their life to get to the playoffs just for it to be canceled. It doesn’t sit well with me.
