First Time at a Restaurant after Quarantine

Story by Olivia Haberek, Staff Writer

On June 9th, 2020 I went out to a restaurant for the first time since the beginning of this quarantine that started on March 13th. I went to Kelly’s Deli in Westerly, RI for a late breakfast at 11:45.

The setup was very different than it was before. The seating was very spread out and some was even removed to fit the distance guidelines. Before there were three rows of seating in each room, now the middle row is almost completely removed with only one table in the middle. Prior to reopening the inside, Kelly’s was doing outside seating outside of the restaurant and a little throughout the parking lot to keep business.

When I was there there were only about three other groups out for food. We were extremely spread out throughout the restaurant. All workers were wearing masks as well as costumers who were arriving and leaving. The food came very quickly after we ordered as well as the check when we finished. The service was great.

The waiter was telling us that the business is slowly increasing and that they expect to go back to the normal amount of business in the near future. There is a steady increase every day, and weekends are gaining more people as well.

All around it was a very positive experience and people seemed hopeful for things to become more normal in the future. So make sure to keep supporting your local businesses.
