NHS to Host Blood Drive on May 22nd

Story by Nicole Haberek, Staff Writer

The National Honor Society will be hosting a blood drive at SHS on Wednesday, May 22nd. The Red Cross will be here in the SHS Gym from 7:30am to 2pm .

Every two seconds, blood is needed to save a life. By donating blood, you could save up to three lives.

Many girls are willing to donate blood, but NHS and the Red Cross encourage more boys to donate blood. Many girls are turned away because of low iron levels, but most boys do not have that problem.

To be eligible to donate, you need to be 17 years old and meet the weight requirements for your height. Your blood needs to have enough iron, so if you plan on donating blood be sure to eat foods with a high amount of iron like meat or spinach.

If you would like to donate or have any questions or concerns, see Ms. LaCombe, Emma Small, Siobhan Duba, or Lucy Sternberg.
