“The Lion King” (2019), the live-action remake of the Disney classic, came to theaters in July earlier this year, 25 years after the original.

The film was directed by Jon Favreau and starred many such as Beyonce, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, and even James Earl Jones, who played the same role as Mufasa in the 1994 original.

The story closely followed the original. After his father’s death, a young lion named Simba runs away from home where he befriends a warthog named Pumbaa and a meerkat named Timon. The story follows them through their lives while simultaneously following Simba’s perishing homeland ruled by a cruel king after his departure.

The film beautifully brings back the magic of the original with outstanding visuals in every scene. The animation made it seem as though every lion, hyena, tucan, and insect were real and alive behind the camera, somehow speaking and singing in perfect English. From each hair on a lion’s head to the wind blowing through the leaves in the forest, each image was full of close details that made this movie shine.

Another thing that kept the magic of the original alive was the presence of James Earl Jones in the cast. He reprised his role as Mufasa, Simba’s father, and the King of Pride Rock. Hearing him speak his most iconic lines from the original film greatly contributed to the film and its similarity to the original.

Through the star-studded cast, iconic plotline, and outstanding animation, “The Lion King” (2019) is a must-see family movie.
